Journal Critique

There are also many magazines that teachers can utilize in their curriculum.  These magazines are either online or in physical form and contain many articles that teachers can assign to their students to read and summarize, including Odyssey Magazine, Muse Magazine and Scholastic Science World Magazine, among others.

Teachers can keep abreast of new ideas in education by reading the vast amount of professional education journals that are available today, most of which can be found online. Journal titles include American Journal of Education, Contemporary Issues in Education Research and International Educational Journal, to name a few.  Many of these journals feature interesting articles concerning the use of technology in the classroom, including an article by Les M. Lunce, Ph.D., written while he was a doctorate student, entitled “Simulations: Bringing the Benefits of Situated Learning to the Traditional Classroom” Journal of Applied Educational Technology, 3:1 (2006): 37-45.  Click here for a review of this article.

Dr. Luce's article incorporates the National Science Education Standards 5-8.6:

"As a result of activities in grades 5-8, all students should develop (a) Abilities of technological design and (b) Understandings about science and technology"
