The Education Department of Michigan State University has produced many WebQuests that can be used by teachers of different subjects and grade levels.  WebQuests are cross-curricular activities that require students to answer questions using information they find online.  They are designed by educators who are incorporating computer technology into their classrooms.  One such WebQuest is entitled “Genetic Pedigree Webquest” and is primarily used to introduce high school biology students to the symbols of a genetic pedigree and their meanings and the purpose of genetic pedigrees.  This WebQuest is intended for 10th grade high school students to enable them to develop skills for analyzing genetic pedigrees by using examples of recessive disorders in sex-linked traits.

Michigan State University is located in East Lansing, Michigan and the Education Department is one of the finest in the United States.  The “Genetic Pedigree Webquest” aligns with the Michigan Science Content Standards, but prior to its use by a teacher from any other state, he or she should determine whether it aligns with his or her respective state’s standards.
